Our Give A Hoof program pays tribute to the generations of donkeys in Kona, Hawaiʻi that for generations carried loads of coffee beans down the steep volcanic mountain sides. The early farmers of Kona named these hard-working donkeys the “Bad Ass Ones” because of their reliably strong, but stubborn nature. Through sponsorships with various non-profits focused on caring for donkeys and proving them safe spaces, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is proud to give back and help raise funds for hard-working donkeys in need.

Donkeys were brought to Hawaii in the early 1800s where their strong, stubborn nature allowed the burros to lead the workload by hauling coffee beans throughout Big Island. However, excess machinery and the end of WWII rendered many donkeys useless in the fields and left to fend for themselves.
